Braid in England
Unless one were particularly observant, it would be easy to walk past Hand & Lock, the worlds oldest embroiderers and goldlacemen (’goldlacemen’ being an arcane term for hand embroiderers working with gold and silver wire).A nondescript building behind Oxford Circus is an unlikely place to find a firm which practices a craft that can be traced back to the time of Catherine de’ Medici, with archives dating from the 18th century, and whose latter-day clients have included Diana, Princess of Wales, and Dame Edna Everage.
