Visit the Atelier

The Hand & Lock Atelier

We are happy to announce that you can now visit the Hand & Lock atelier; one of the oldest work rooms still in activity today, containing an archive of embroidered work dating all the way back to 1790! There are various reasons for you to arrange a tour at Hand & Lock, for instance:

-If you are part of a group (min. 5), visiting London and are interested in Hand Embroidery, Fashion, Military Embroidery, and Accoutrements etc, a tour at Hand & Lock is most definitely recommeded.

-If you are teaching either one of the following: fashion, textiles, arts, design, fabric embellishments, history or embroidery and you want to show examples to your students.

-If you are a member of a Guild and want to organise your quarterly trip.

We propose a guided tour of 45 minutes per group. During the tour you’ll see our in-house embroiderers working on actual projects, using techniques such as Tambour beading, Trapunto and Cornely amongst others. You will be shown stunning pieces and samples we have provided the Fashion industry and Theatre with; including examples of Diplomatic and Military Court Dress from all over the world.
