Hand & Lock mourns the passing of Francois Lesage

The entire team at Hand & Lock was saddened by the passing of Francois Lesage yesterday.
He was the heir to the legendary Paris embroidery house, well known for its work with French couturiers, and the Lesage school in Paris that has been training embroiderers since 1992. Hand & Lock chairman Alastair Macleod made this comment:
“I have known Francois for many years now, he and I have become great friends and indeed on one occasion at the opening of the V&A’s ‘The Golden Age of Couture’ in September 2007 Francois and I travelled through the exhibition discussing which embroideries were his and which were mine. We agreed on a draw.
Hand & Lock’s world renowned Prize for Embroidery has hosted several conferences at which Francois attended to present prizes and give his advice on couture embroidery ‘Paris style.’
I shall miss him dearly, there are few great men in embroidery and he was one.”
